I Love These Odds

steelcityexotics Jun 14, 2006 09:41 PM

I just hatched out two clutches of yellow bellies, One was a clutch of 6 and the other a clutch of 5. All 11 were yellow bellies and even better the ratio was 1.10 looks like I will be holding onto alot of females lol. I have a third clutch that was only 2 eggs they are do to hatch in a couple of days and it was killing me to see if they were yellow bellies too. So I cut them tonight and sure enough both were YB. Here is a couple pics of them tell me what you think. They all came out looking just like dad. Thanks again. Paul

What temperature are you incubating at? I hear something about temperature having effect on the male/female ratio (i.e hotter temp hatching out females or something along those lines...)

ALL yellowbellies?! AWESOME!!

Congrats!!

My Temps are steady at 88 degrees to 88.5 I really do not believe that because I have other clutches hatching on the same shelf that has given me mostly males? Paul

Snake's have chromosomes to determine their gender. It depends on if the mother passed a z or a w gender chromosome to the baby and not the incubation temperature as with some other reptiles.

And the odds of going 11 for 11 for yellow bellys from yellow belly X normal is 1 in 2,048. Way to go!
