food item v.s. size

we have an 11 ft. burm that was a rescue. "he" was very skinny when we got him and we've been giving him pretty decent meals to get him up to 'normal' size. Now were doing 3 pretty good size rabbits (anywhere from 4-7 lbs each) about every other month, maybe just 1 7 pounder a month, just depends on whats available. for instance he went hungry around easter b/c he wont eat frozen thawed for anything and bunny prices went through the roof. anyway- Upon looking through some of the other posts I see that some people only feed a burm this size a good 7 pounder every other month and some feed that every 10 days. everyones opinion is different. we've had him for several months and he's starting to 'fill out' hes not getting fat by any means, hes very muscular and quite a bit stronger than when we got him. (if you put him on your shoulders for the first 2 months he would just hang like he was dead instead of picking his head up and exploring or wrapping his tail around your leg, now hes much more active). he has no temperment problems if we skip a meal (or 2... damn easter) so changing his feeding schedual isnt a big deal.
*how much should he be eating. last we measured he was 11 ft 7 inches.
*how often would you reccomend?

I have no clue how old he is so I can't really determine how big he "should be". I've had burms for as long as I can remember but this is the only one we've had that had a food issue (or lack there of). I know how much an 11 ft burm should weigh but i have a feeling he should be a lot bigger. The vet I use said something about him maybe being 12 years give or take by looking at his scars and how they've healed up and new scale growth over the years.... dont know how that works but hes a vet that ONLY does reptiles so I guess i'll take his word for it. anyway- for a 12 year old burm, i would expect him to be much bigger. we're also going to get "him" sexed as soon as he sheds- he was blue over the weekend so it should be any day- since that may change his weight a bit....
any help would be nice

oh and i forgot. I've heard that chickens in the like arent very nutrient filled so i dont really want to use those for food. Should i stick with using a few rabbits or should i move him up to pigs? and about what size pig? with the rabbits he usually gets about 15 lbs worth BUT its not all in one big huge lump so should i get him a 15 lb pig or 3 5 lb pigs or.... when we feed him the rabbits there is NO visible lump whatsoever so I really think he should go up a bit in prey size.... that was my other question. thanks
