Water Dish Query

tracelt12 Jun 15, 2006 02:23 AM

I've recently purchased a small water reservoir (exo tera water reservoir to be exact), but it only has a small opening for watering. It's basically just big enough for my leopard geckos to stick their heads in to drink. I used to have a water dish that was big enough for them to get into, but i have never seen them do anything but walk through it. They never bathed. When they drank from it, they'd only lean over and lap at it like a dog. Is this new water reservoir going to give enough access for them to drink and get moisture? I've found little about this subject, but i do worry as to whether or not they'll get they humidity they need.

It should be fine for them to drink out of...but for moisture you need to have a humind hide area in their cage. These can be made from a tupperware type container with a lide. You simply cute a hole big enough for one to get through in either the top or on one of the sides and put some type of moss in it. Peat and spagnum mosses are best...but simple terrerium or spanish moss can be used as well you will just have to wet it more often. spray down the box with the moss in it and keep the moss moist. Your geckos will love this area and they will get the needed moisture to ensure proper shedding. Good luck!
