Outdoor Caging

Jenstin Jun 15, 2006 12:44 PM

Hey everyone my name is Jenna and my boyfriend and I are officially new baby Iguana owners. We plan on builing a large cage soon and I had a few questions.

Since there is no covered roof, besides the wire and wood, what do you do if it rains, gets cold, etc?

Sorry if this question was answered earlier, this is my first time on this forum.

A cage should always have a cover. Some cover the whole cage, leaving sunlight to enter during the early and later hours, so that at midday, when the sun is high and at the hottest, the animals won't cook.

Others cover half the cage, so constant sun/shade is provided. However, measures should be taken that rainwater won't flood, ruin, destroy, or cause electrical hazards, or even drown the animal.

A cover gives the animal more security, and shelter from onlooking birds and predatory animals (cats etc).

Plywood (coated with a thick coat of polyurethane) is often used.
