Corn breeding Question

Naja-naja Jun 15, 2006 02:24 PM

How soon after laying eggs can a female corn breed again?
she is about 4' and is a little over 365g? she layed 27 eggs on 6/9/06 and is going through shed now and I want to put my male back in her cage to make room for more herps but he wants to breed with everything he can. so should I put them together now,in a week,in a month?
Thanks for any help

Brandon

You can put them back together anytime. The female will probably be more receptive after she sheds though. There is no "rule" for reintroducing snakes to get double clutches. Some snakes will have a second set of eggs even when not reintroduced to a male. The important thing is to make sure the female has enough weight on her to handle the stress of producing another clutch of eggs.

Not exactly sure if you are saying you want to breed her again or that you want to put the male with her but don't want them to breed.
If you do want her to double clutch then, make sure she is in good weight and health. Then re-introduce her. Make sure you feed her enough to fatten her back up for the next clutch.

If you do not want the male to breed her, don't re-introduce him. He will most certainly try to mate her again. I would not recommend housing a male and female together at any time of the year. if you must house two snakes together, house two of the same sex.
