Double clutching

billstevenson Jun 15, 2006 05:52 PM

Question for you more experienced Lampro breeders: If the female is gravid after a second breeding in the same season, can she be expected to repeat the pre-laying shed before depositing eggs?
Thank you in advance.
Bill

there is always variability between collections but in my experience the females I've had that laid a second clutch did indeed go through the pre laying shed. mind you i don't try for second clutches and it's only happened to me a handful of times but the colony record books say "yes".

I've had the exact same experiences as daveb with the double clutching. For me, double clutching doesn't happen all that often, but when it does, there's a pre-egglaying shed.

Thanks Guys. This is a first here and I'm trying to anticipate events, vacation, incubator space, etc. The female is getting heavy so its helpful to know that an early-warning shed is likely.
