Might have mites...help me?

cedreptiles Jun 15, 2006 09:26 PM

I just picked up a Suri and I think he might have mites leftover. There were a few on the body when I got home and it looks like there might be a few on his bottom lip but I can't get to them. What does everyone use to get rid of them? I've heard to use frontline mixed with water cause it kills mites and the eggs. I also have vision cages stacked on top of each other and I'm worried about the rest of my collection but I don't have a chance right now to move anyone to another room. Could anyone give me any advice at all? I would REALLY appreciate it. Thanks in advance.

I'm reading up on that stuff now....but now I can't spray that directly on the snake can I? If I can, what about his bottom lip? should I use a q-tip or something?

i know you said you dont have time to do any separating but you will be sorry if you dont. They WILL spread and will infect your other snakes. I use reptile relief w/ 110% results. It can be sprayed directly on the animal and is non toxic. Provent-a-mite is great as well but is more of a cage mite killer. Which the R.R. serves as both for me. You will want to put the infected boa on paper towels as a substrate so that you can monitor the mite status and treat for them easier. hope this helps. Again, number 1 priority..... quarantine now..... Jon

I am going out tomorrow to buy another cage and place her on the other side of the room. I know this isn't far enough but this is the best I can do considering my living conditions. My question is, prevent-a-mite...can this be sprayed or used on the face of the snake? I think he has 3 of them on the bottom of his lip.

You shouldn't put Provent a Mite on the animal. Good luck, take care!
