denting in egg question...

lele Jun 16, 2006 09:39 AM

one of my Ana's (side-blotched lizard) egg seem to have a slight indent on one side. The other 4 are fine. They were laid 5/29 and look rosy and plump, but for that one. Any thoughts?

Hi lele, is your substarte still damp? Sometimes they will dent in if the substrate is getting dry. If thats not it than just do nothing, it will either collaspe/shivel and go bad or just stay that way. Do not get rid of it, wait until you know it's bad!

Many of us have made the dreadful mistake of thinking a dented in or partially collapsed eggs was no- good and opened just to see a hatchling in there (breathing) and just dies because he's not ready to come into the world. It's very sad and makes ya feel just awful.

So Leave it till ya absolutely KNOW it's done.

thanks, Eve. If anything the substrate may be too moist. no sign of molding (I am using straight vermiculite) but I noticed an ever-so-slight smell of mold when I opened them today. I keep unplugging the UTH b/c that room gets so warm if we have warm weather. This weekend will be in the 90's but my A/c will be on. Hard to maintain good temps, but they range 80-85 for the most part.

I also posted some blotchie questions on the chuck site, so if you happen to drop by...

thanks, as always!
