Feeding question.

What is the youngest age that you have have started feeding your rat snakes small rats?

Its more a matter of size than age. I started my creamsicles on weanling rats at about 4 ft. They started to get bulky at that size rather than longer. At 4.5 ft they went to small rats. When my male died he was 5ft 2in and could handle a medium rat.

I think the rule of thumb is feed nothing more than 1.5 times the width of the snakes head. There also seems to be a general consensus that feeding multiple small items is better than a single large item. At some point though, it becomes more efficient and practical to make the move to rats.

Remember free advice is worth every penny you pay for it! In the end its your call.
