Awwww but oy.....

PHRatz Jun 16, 2006 09:54 AM

I've just finished session one of my summer class for kids, I have 2 more weeks to go.
Yesterday the teenager who helps us in the classroom went into his backyard to get his hedgehog when his dog almost ate this roaming wandering baby.
He wanted me to find some place for the baby to go away from his dogs. oy what am I gonna do with this one?
When I got home I gave it a bath then dinner which it ate with no problem.
This baby thinks he/she is so bad lol when I took this picture a little while ago the baby threatened me. A mouth open get away from me stance, it was so cute lol too bad I didn't get that photo.
I really do not want to keep every turtle I see. People keep giving them to me and I have to find something to do with them, some place for them to go because I'd be overrun if I kept every one that falls into my hands.
Since this baby isn't a pet and isn't very old do most of you agree that it'd make it if I found a nice spot where there's access to water & food, away from residential areas then let it go?
I think the wild life is what this one needs but there's that report about how when they're taken from their original territory they don't make it. That keeps nagging at me.
Being this young, if not eaten by a natural predator it'd make it in the wild where it belongs don't you think?

Very cute indeed!
I vote to release the little guy, though, so it can grow up wild and breed and produce more cute little ones. Let it go where it has plenty of cover.

That's my vote too because I think being this young it wouldn't have already had a territory established, there's still time for it to establish territory in a new area.
I know of a place where there is a small educational center and the outdoor area of it is open, by that I mean not fenced in so that the baby would not be trapped inside there, yet it's private property.
There is a pond on the property which means the water being there makes all the natural plant life near it grow well so I'm thinking somewhere on that property would be a good place for it to be. There are lots of bugs, lots of native plants for cover, and there is a source for water.
If we drove it way out in the countryside there won't be watering holes so I hesitate to do that.

I think that's our best bet, I'll contact them and if that doesn't work out, I'll contact my vet again to find out if this one can be released on her private property.
In the meantime it sure is cute to look at!
