OT St. Louis Zoo pics. 1 sweet boa, too

PGoss Jun 16, 2006 10:37 AM

We'll start with the boa. Not too many of these kids around.

This zoo had a very nice reptile house. A few large enclosures with various crocs and gators. Here are some venomous kids.

And of course some big kids.

I couldn't pass on this opportunity. Reminds me of a few people I know. Even a couple in the reptile industry. But without the "asses", we wouldn't have the good ones.

And one last shot from the bug house.

A great zoo with free admission. How can you beat that? They may make up for some of that with the $3 bottles of water.

That Boa at the top almost look like an Amethystine to me but what do I know... LOL

but upon closer inspection, sure enough, it was a Jamaican boa
(Epicrates subflavus). The give away is between the nostril and the eye. Jamaicans have three large scales and Scrubs have two rows of many small scales. This guy sure could pass for a scrub python though.

That's proof. Told you I didn't know anything about Boas. Pythons either for that matter.

nice black cages here made by Boaphile Plastics. Some guy named Jeff Ronne. I think he pretty much has the patent on "boaphile". You should stop using his name. Be more creative. Maybe something like "i_play_a_sahweet_guitar". I also think this Ronne guy knows something about boas. I could be wrong. It would only be the second time though.

I have been sniffing so much glue here for so many yeas sometimes I don't even know who I am. I make my Boas sniff it too but just the gravid females! See what happened to some of the babies after I made them sniff glue?

WOW! Hey Jeff...those are some real glue sniffers for sure! Way to go man! Those patternless ones ROCK! Andy

Those are some awesome pictures. Did you get any of that giant steel sculpture on Hampton? Its awesome and I think they only put it up a few months ago. Next time your in St. Louis let me know. Its great to hear that other people like the STL Zoo as much as I do.

kinda neat, but I didn't even think to take pics of it. I was plenty busy snapping pics of the living animals. We were also trying to beat the rain. That zoo definitely has enough to hit it multiple times a year. It is quite a bit more impressive than the zoo here in Indianapolis. We made the trek to hit the zoo and the reptile show the next day.
