leopard gecko not eating

z10silver Aug 01, 2003 09:40 AM

I recently purchased a 3.5 inch leopard gecko 4 days ago and it has drank but not eaten. I offered a small dish with mealworms which is in the tank at all times. The gecko will go up to a mealworm and seem to "sniff" it and then back away. The temps are all correct. What could be the problem? Also, do leopards eat less before a shed?

It takes some leos a good amount of time to eat by themselves and others will start to eat right when they see food. I've had one I got on the 12th of July and she still isnt eating regularly yet but they other I got on the same day wont top eating. Some are just different if it begins to loose weight take it into the vet for a check up.

I takes a while for them to get adjusted to their new home, so I wouldnt worry. I'd leave them alone for a couple days to reduce the stress from the move. What did it for me was some waxworms, try different foods, once they start eating they wont stop again. What were they being fed before? Try to find out, maybe they dont like mealworms or prefer something else. My leo now wont eat mealworms unless she gets her superworms first, spoiled. Anyway good luck,
Mac
