Heat Treating Wood

MadSpazz Jun 17, 2006 01:45 AM

I remember reading about how to make wild branches safe for a snake cage by heating them in the oven but I can't remember the temp or time for the process. If anyone has any information about how to sterilize branches I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks.

I wrap them in foil and I think 10 minutes on 350 would be sufficient.

Not sure what wrapping it in foil would do, but I would bake it for a little longer than 10 min. Maybe even soak it in a bleach water mix first.

One thing to think about, the tree that the branch came from or the yard or field, has it ever been sprayed with pesticide? Any still in the branch?
