My first Carpet

Black_Wolf Jun 17, 2006 11:31 AM

I got my first Jungle Carpet python a few days ago. And man, it is differnt than what i'm normally use to. To me, it has a large head for its body and has a VERY good grip for someone her size. She was squeazing 2 of my fingers and was constriting my blood flow. She's about 1 month old. Planing on giving her a fuzzy mouse on monday. Can i start her off on rats or should i do mice first?

ps. i ordered he from the Raptile ranch ad in the classified.
pps. sorry for the lack of focus.

I would not let that snake see a mouse. Give it pinkie rats.

THAT’S SO RIGHT! Andy is sooo correct! It shouldn’t ever know what a mouse is! I try and try to give that advice all the time but I get excuses like,” I already have a 50 frozen mice” or “ I think mice are easer to swallow (general python forum)”

Talk to anyone who has adult carpet pythons and HAS to feed them mice….many, many mice! IT SUCKS! My local reptile guy has the most beautiful, BIG JCP. She eats rats! He has other JCP’s that won’t eat rats and they aren’t near her size! One eats 7 mice at a time. That’s $7 compared to less than $3 for a rat.

If you feed live, witch I would try to get it not use to, you have to feed one mouse at a time, what a pain!

Mine are on live mice and I can’t seem to get them to change over. My brother’s JCP was feed frozen rat pinkies from the start. What a difference in growth and feeding response.

I challenge anyone to give me a good reason for not feeding rats! You can get them mail order if need be!
