If you have a 40 long already.. I guess you can put 3 in there.. But a 40 long doesn't have much height. If you don't have one already, you would be much better off getting a tank that is not as long, and taller.. just my opinion..

yeah, I know, but I found this tank when we went to drop off the wood junk from rebuilding our deck. A guy had it in th eback of his pick up and said I could take it if I wanted it, so a free tank
So three? So i'll probably end up with two, a blue phase and a normal one

If you have the tank already make it into a vertical...

This one houses 4 WTF's (This is an old pic of when I made it, and I have added stuff since then). Also seeing as WTF arnt perticularly aggressive to each other space doesnt seem to be a huge concern. The only problem is more frogs=more bio waste.
5 or six, just don't have more than one male.
Otis.. 40 gallons is not big enough for that many. No way would I put more than 1/10gallons.. with whites.. I try to keep 1 frog per 15 gallons. They are large frogs and need the space. They also produce a lot of waste, and that many in a 40long would be a housekeeping nightmare. If you fell behind, who knows what would cultivate itself in that tank. If with a naturalistic viv, you cannot get rid of the waste that fast.
Also, Whites are completely non-aggressive and non-territorial. If you just keeping them, male/female ratio doesn't matter at all. If you want to breed them.. you want more males than females.
I am not sure where your information came from, but I disagree with both points, and I am sure most whites breeders/keepers would as well.

I agree with Tim. *nod*
I have never had any problems with my two, I'm not sure if they're both male or not though, I never seem to be close by when they cry. Anyways, they share their space, have their favorite spots, but don't get agressive when the other comes close to "their area".
Waste may not be the only problem you would have with that many frogs in a 40 gal. You have to think of the amount of food that needs to be in there. *nod* I can imagine what kind of a mess that could make too.
Anyways, there's my piece.
