I have 4 holdback Northern BTS that were born on 6-5-03. I have been growing them up pretty fast, and 2 of the larger ones are already over 12 inches. Yesterday, (at 7 weeks of age) the largest blocky headed "male looking" baby dropped a nice little set of seminal plugs! They were pretty small, but they were his first ones, and there was no mistaking them. This is a new record early age for the dropping of seminal plugs, and gender determination from this method. The earliest that I knew of before was from an Irian Jaya BTS that was born alone (no other siblings), and extremely large (like a PTS) I kept him and he grew very fast at 5 months of age, and 15 inches in length, he dropped a pair of plugs. He was longer, but it is important to remember that Irian Jaya bts has a longest tail accounting for 65 to 95% of their body (SVL) length as opposed to the Northern's tail that accounts for only 55 to 60% of its SVL. Anyway, it is looking more and more like sexual maturity in BTS (and many other reptiles) is more dependent on actual growth/size rather than just time itself.
