fire bellied advice

findaratot Jun 17, 2006 09:33 PM

Hi, I'm interested in getting 1 or 2 fire bellied newts and I was wondering if they are better kept in pairs or singly. Also I have had a lot of experience keeping fish, amphibians and reptiles, so I was thinking it would be more rewarding to raise one from a larva, is this possible and if so where would I get one. thank you in advance for any advice you can give.

newts in general are best kept singly because of their poor eyesight. sometimes they will try and eat the other one, i know this is kinda hard to beleive, but it's true. housing more then one together can result in loss of toes and tails. i have kept these before so if you have any more questions... god luck!
