Help with temps in my reptile room

peach749 Jun 18, 2006 01:16 AM

Hello I have set up a reptile room in sheet rock and everything, its nice enough that I would live in it. There has been one problem I think im going to come across. The problem is the heat the light will put off; it wont hurt my dragons that much but will cause havoc on my crix and other live feeders. I installed a small a/c that we had around the house. It’s a window unit but its one of those where the fan runs all the time even with out the compressor on. I will only be keeping it around 85 in that room so it wont be turning on that much but I don’t wont to have the fan running the hole time. I was wondering if I could use one of those thermostats that you plug you under the tank heater or basking lights on. With that when you temps hits the temps you wont doesn’t it cut the power to the device then back on when you need it. if anyone can help please let me know what you have done or what you know.
Thanks peach

The thermostats are a good idea, just be sure to check what the electrical rating on the thermostat is. AC's suck a lot of juice and it may be too much for the thermostat to handle.
