Record-sized Corn Snake Eggs Clutch

tspuckler Jun 18, 2006 08:56 AM

This female Miami just finished laying her eggs. Here she is with 24 of them. When all was said and done, she had a total of 38 - the largest clutch I've ever had a snake produce. The eggs are very small ( a Miami phase trait) and only average 1-1/4 inches in length.

That is the largest I have heard of in corns. My big central Fl female laid 27 last year. I'm waiting for this years clutch.

Congrats on that!!!

Speaking of record size clutches, but did that guy who was claiming he had more than 50 eggs ever post pictures?

I hate to be a pesimist, but I won't beleive it until I see it. I find it highly unlikely, but hey, I am not an expert!

according to bill & cathy love's book i am pretty sure that it states that the record corn clutch is 53... the most i have ever had is mid 30's from a corn..

Misty,

Yeah, I read that post too. I wouldn't believe it without at least seeing a photo. I wanted to point out that when I say "record-sized clutch," I'm talking about my own breeding record - not the world's record - which from what I understand is over 50.

Tim

Below is a photo of the eggs. A couple might be buried and at least 3 are infertile:

That is a beautiful Miami corn. How large hatchlings are we talking about when they emerge from those 1-1/4 sized eggs? What would be an interesting comparison pic would be to have those Miami eggs setup next to a clutch of emoryi rat eggs.

Good idea. I'll post a pic of one of those Miamis next to a creamsicle later this summer. I don't have any pure Great Plains Rats.
