newbie with several questions

mlove Jun 18, 2006 09:45 AM

Hi, I'm researchhing collared lizards and will hopefully be buying some soon. I have a few questions... Does anyone know of a reputable breeder? Has anyone had success with having one male and a few females together in a colony? What is your opinion of having collared lizards and a desert iguana together in a huge walk in type enclosure? What type of enclosure is best for collareds (all wood with glass or screen front, glass with screen top , all screen). Thanks for your help!

First there are a few reputable breeders on here (Nice people, caring) Will Wells, BrockN, Steve Boszik, Paul MacIntosh, and I also breed, but have none available at the moment.

It is always a good thing if your interested in breeding to start with a trio , yes, a male and his harem 2 - 3 females is fine if you have the space. As far as a desert iggy with collareds in a large walk in enclosure, I don't see a major problem with it.
I have a desert iggy who free roams with a few od my special collareds and they are are fine. I even let out a couple chuckwallas to roam daily with them all. They have all known each other for years. All desert critters from same locales.

I would not use all screen only reptariums for sunning. But all glass with screen tops,OR wooden with glass or screen fronts would be nice too. In my opinion

Again glad to have ya with us! Enjoy the forum.

Thanks, I love your beautiful lizards. I was the person who emailed you two days ago. I was sad that you did not have any available. Maybe I can get lucky next time:0 Your website has been a huge help in my research. Do you know if any of the other breeders you mention have any available or how I can reach them? There is someone on Kingsnake.com that has some but I'm leery about buying from someone that is unknown. Thanks for your advice on housing.
