Chameleons are never easy to keep....but some can be kept with less difficulty than others....they all require more care than many other lizards.

Veileds are the one most people recommend a person start off with in spite of most of them having a reputation for being testy. With the proper husbandry they can do well as a pet....but are still recommended as a "look-don't-touch" pet.

Males can live for over 8 years if properly taken care of...and females can live for over 6 years.

To keep a veiled chameleon for that long requires that you get the husbandry right....lighting, temperature, supplementation, gutloading or insects, water/hydration, etc.

Here are some sites that give information on health and husbandry issues...

If you still have questions, just ask.

Look im no half wit noob! I got experience with chameleons! I have worked with mellers and panthers with my dad! I am aware of there husbandry.....

I am thinking of gettin a veild but one of my main concerns is how tame it is...Im not going to be handling him more then i have to, but i dont want to get a grump that will lunge at my hand or stress at my presence...How can i prevent this stress?

Glad you have had some experience with chameleons....so we can skip the husbandry then.

You said..."I am thinking of gettin a veild but one of my main concerns is how tame it is...Im not going to be handling him more then i have to, but i dont want to get a grump that will lunge at my hand or stress at my presence...How can i prevent this stress?"...chameleons are somewhat like people...they each have their own personalities. I have had a veiled that will come out on my hand and never even think about biting me....then I have also had a veiled male that would race after my hand and would have bitten me many times if I wasn't prepared. Trouble is that if you buy one that is calm and friendly, it doesn't mean that he will stay like that. Females can be just as bad (or good) as the males can.

Panthers seem to have a little less aggressiveness to their personalities...but there's no guarantee that they are all handleable either.

Its mostly a chance you take when you buy a panther or veiled.

My first veiled...I was rather oblivious...she lived 2 and 1/2 years. My second, I am not so stupid, and still have had my share of problems even though I follow husbandry to a "T"!

Whatever you choose...be prepared for the ups and downs!

Good luck DUDE!
