With my recent purchase of 600 praying mantids, I got to wondering if anyone has tried to feed one to their collared? I've heard fully grown mantids can take down small birds. It'd be an interesting fight.
Maybe I'm just up too late.

Praying mantis eating a small gecko, and also a praying mantis eating a hummingbird...both pictures were pretty nasty. not my favorite thing to see. Go lizard! LOL
perhaps a more appropriate name for this insect is "preying" mantis...
We have them hear in MI. They get to about 4-5 inches. I tried feeding one to an adult male dickersonae. The mantis held its ground and actually fought of the collared. The collared after a couple of attempts wanted nothing to do with the mantis.
Not a great picture, but goes to show.
Praying mantis eating a small child
I didn't include the grosser pictures.

The Mantis won? Thats awesome. I know they can be feisty little buggers... I had one for a pet for a while and she took several chunks out of my fingers.
Wow, talk about feisty, and too think we have a baby mantis somewhere in our backyard.
