italktomycereal Jun 19, 2006 01:30 AM

im looking for a (not a false water cobra, but an) egyptian false cobra care sheet.im having difficulties finding one online, and judging from the region they like sand bedding and low humidity, but what temps do they seem most partial to? any information would be greatly appricated, as i am considering buying one.

I do not have moilensis (the false cobra) but I have and have kept Montpelliors from the same area. They do fine on aspen bedding and usually are very easy to get on rodents (the Monts). I am inclined to think the false cobra should be just as easy to get to feed on rodents.

As for the venom, I just had a prolonged bite from my very healthy 3.5' male Mont and there was minimal swelling and no pain.

I keep an moilensis. He won´t eat mice.. at the former owner he did eat rodents but after the move to my house he stoped. I keep him in a cage with rocks and sand. Just one think...THE VENOM IS
NOT THAT SOFT AS YOU SAY OR THINK. Brian Fry had an article if I am correct about them.. He told me that the venom of moilensis could be put in the same category as Naja so be smart and don´t get bitten by them

not saying to take chances...the venom is not as bad as a "naja"
no evidence compares to that & during Dr. Sean Bush's chat he was asked about FWC...here is the Q&A from the log

geofri: dr bush, what can you tell me about the venom of the false water cobra?

Dr_Sean_Bush: It can cause some swelling, possibly more if a bite is prolonged. GA

Of the 3 cases I know about, all experienced excessive bleeding...no long term effects.
all snake keepers need to be responsible...let us not give out false information.

False cobras and FWC's are different snakes with different capabilities. False water cobras are as you say not life threatening to humans but false cobras are more potent. FWC's aka brazilian smooth snakes are from South America while false cobras are from Africa thus classifying them as completely different species.
