RIP LITTLE BUDDY...............

Ruben14 Jun 19, 2006 12:19 PM

I lost my 05 male Motley last Thursday do to a heating issue. What sux is I was in the area a few hours before I actually went to check on them but decided to get my other running around out of the way first. I can't even explain the emotions I had when I saw the little guy like he was. I found him about 5:30pm and he held on barely breathing until 11:00pm that night. I had my friend thats a VET check him out but there was nothing that could've been done. I stayed with him the whole time until he made his last little movement and then I knew he had passed.

The thing that bothers me the most is, I feel like I could've prevented it if I had only gone by a few hours before. Another thing that sux is, I just moved him to that spot and actually spent a lot of time with him that night and I got to see how sweet and friendly he was. This past few days have been hard to deal with but I guess you gotta keep going and do what you need to do to make sure this NEVER happens again!

There was two others effected by the heat issue also. They are doing alot better but I don't know if they'll ever be 100% again. If not, they will be brought up as pets and never bred.

Thanks everyone for reading this. I wanted to let it out here cause none of my friends here(at home)like snakes so they can't really understand what i'm going through.

Ruben Michel

I'm so sorry little guy.

Ruben,

I am so sorry to hear that. Unfortunately I had a like situation two years ago. Mine was an electrical issue, where the breakers in the room reset and put the heaters on full blast. When I got there the room was well over 100 degrees. I lost 9 of my cobras and two pigmy rattlesnakes. Only 2 snakes lived.

Hopefully you will handle this better than I. I was so upset, and beat myself up so much that I sold the two I had left and would not let myself back into the hobby. I REGRET selling to this day....because stuff happens that we cant always control. Atleast we both know what to do differently next time. Unfortunately it had to happen this way...

Again, sorry for your loss. Good luck with the others!

I was beating myself up the past few days, thinking I wasn't fit to take care of all these little lives but like you said, this stuff happens and if I give up now, i'll regret it later.

I think the hardest thing for me right now is knowing that the poor thing sufferd the way he did. I felt like locking myself in a little tool shed in a 100 degree weather until I passed out that day. ARRRRRR!!

Anyways, thanks again guys for the understanding and support.

Yeah, it was pretty stupid of me. One of the snakes I rid was a very light male Indian cobra...tmk the only other peron in the country with them that light is Mitch @ diamond reptile...and apparently someone else as well, which is not me any longer.

Oh well...Well all live on...

Was it a heating malfunction or a cooling malfunction?

misunderstanding. I keep some of my boas at my grandmothers house do to space at my apartment and the room I keep my boas in regulates it self very well if it's set up right. For 3 years I never had a problem with heat or cold. Well, that day was our first really hot day of the summer and the night before the door was shut to the room to keep the right temp but my g-ma left really early and didn't open the door and put the fan on like she usually does cause I was supposed to go by late morning to clean and stuff. Well, she calls about 4:30 and asks if i'm still coming by and I told her yes and was the door opened and the fan tuned on this morning? She said no,I just opened it an hour ago cause she thought I was coming by a lot earlier! At that point I freaked and dropped what I was doing and hauled major A$$ to my house but it was too late! I didn't have a thermostat on the rack cause like I said before the way the temps regulated was fine if the doors were right and most of the stories I hear about stuff like this happening was do to faulty thermostats so.............Now basically if I had one it wouldn't of happened!!! Well, i'm know going to invest in the double thermostats so this will hopefully NEVER happen again. All in all it's totally my fault and all I can do is learn and take the steps I need to to prevent this from happening again.

Sorry to hear that. I don't know if I would be able to handle a loss like that. There's no way to prevent something like that, it's just a risk we have to deal with when our hobby involves living creatures.

Talk to you soon,
Matt

support. This forum really comes in handy for such situations. My friends here really didn't understand why I was so upset over a "little snake" and it really helps to have a group of fellow herpers and animal lovers that know just how it feels to lose something be it big or small that you love.

Good luck to everyone this year and I know i've said it a bunch but BIG THANKS AGAIN. Your words of encouragement really made a difference.

the bad news. That really sucks.

It sucks when we loose any pet but especially so when it is one like this. Hopefully he did not suffer before he passed. If you don't mind my asking what hapopened to him. I had a thermostat go wacky on me 3-4 years ago and lost an albino ball male and 2 het alb females. I was DEVASTATED...

Ruben,

I'm sorry to hear that. I know how it feels to cook a few snakes. It is an AWFUL feeling. There is nothing you can do after you see them, and it is a SHOCK!!!!!!!!!!

THAT is awful. I hope the others make it. It always seems to be the Best animals that go down too.
