Pastel or high yellow? Opinions PLEEZE!

steve_harrison Jun 19, 2006 10:47 PM

Hey,

The first shot is a male pastel hatchling I had from last year. The last 2 pics are of a female I picked up in a pet store for $25- she just keeps getting brighter and is nearly identical to my adult pastel female. Is she just high yellow or did I luck out and get a pastel?

thanks,

Steve Harrison

Hey,

The first one IS a pastel I produced last year. The 2nd & 3rd pics are of the high yellow I picked up earlier this year. I was thinking just a high yellow as well, but she is a nice one!

Anyone can see that,. I am talking about the last two pictures. You said the first was a pastel. I agreed. You asked if the 2nd one was a pastel. No it is not.. I didn't on the next two pictures is all.. No biggie. Nice Pastel..

Hey,

Sorry for the miscommunication about the 1st pic- yeah I figured she was a "normal"- but I know she'll throw some great pastels or spiders as clean as she is. What was the "giveaway moment" that you knew she wasn't a pastel?

Thanks,

Steve

Let me tell you. I need alot 2nd oppinions also and I feel Wes is the best breeder in world that is why he is my partner and family. He has bred everything. Now just balls though. So he answers all of my questions and you know something. 9 times out of 10 he is right. I remeber when I first started out. I didn't even know what a pastel was. The expensive snakes weren't out there. Alot of them I only saw pictures of and never saw them in person until I got them. Love them all especially the females not just snakes either...

To me there is usuaally blushing in all pastels saddles. They usually just aren't all black. Some Blondes are though. I have the offspring from the original Matt Turner pastels That Ralph got from Matt himself that are the same way. Yet some I see have very little blushing. That snake is more green and a pastel has a browning down its back as it ages and you can see it.Listen if you are ever in OKC you ar welcome to come and look at some really amazing stuff and hang with me for a few and you will be identifying eveything.. Rock on Steve love your enthusiasm about the ball pythons. We love them..

I believe that pastels have wide (like close or all three scales) clear bellies. Someone correct me if there are exceptions. The one pictured may well be something but I don't think could be a pastel with dark that far onto the belly scales.

Hi yellow normals...

Hunter's Guide to Pastels.

I bet they'd make some nice pastels though.
