Sure - any excuse to take more pictures of these guys! It's the pale one on the right side of the picture:

Nothing beats Elaphe climacophora...

...but Elaphe dione comes pretty close (ha die Wim!).

Very nice snakes!!!

Elaphe dione is a forgotten ratsnake. It is small gentle and very nice colouration, I don't understand why there is so small interest?! (toch Herman!)

I agree with what you're saying here Wim. The lack of interest for Elaphe dione is quite disturbing. I can look for hours and hours at these little guys, and still I keep coming back for more.

I also agree Wim. I've worked with Chinese Diones for over 10 years and I love them. But the babies are very hard to sell - there is definitely a lack of interest and I'm not sure why.

I agree, Diones are very nice and gentle snakes, but the offsprings are hard to sell.
I think people know to less about diones, and only think it is ordinary and have ugly colouration, but this is not true. We have now more localities for example china- Xian and north east, CHerksy, Tenebrosa. And a melanistic phase, it is called Nigrita. And we have also orange cherksy specimens.

People don't know there is are so many froms, and evry for have its own unique personality, so are cherky small and very gentle, china grows bigger and is more defensive.

I think there sould be come more interest for this nice species. The same for bimacultata (with looks very similar to dione in many ways).

Best regards,
Gidi (son of Wim) I have now make a own account ...

ps Check for more information about elaphe dione, our website, www.elaphedione.com

Well, it's like they say in Holland: "Wat de boer niet kent, dat eet hij niet." ('What the peasant doesn't know, the peasant doesn't eat.'). Here are some pix of the striped Elaphe climacophora I purchased earlier this year. First picture was taken by Jeroen van Wijk, second picture by Dennis van Marle. Aren't they gorgeous? Has anyone ever thought of breeding a striped climacophora to an albino?
