Leopards and Sulcattas

snakesnmore Jun 20, 2006 01:58 PM

I just was given a female Leopard Tortoise. She weights in at 5lbs. They person that gave her to me says she is about nine yrs old, but I think thats wrong. I have a 3y/o Sulcatta that weights in at the same. And there both about the same size. I'm still in the middle of reading up on them. But wanted to know if they are compatible with Sulcattas or will they fight. I live in a warm climate and keep them outside roaming free and grazing in the backyard 95% of the year. The only time they are together is at nite when I put them in the pen. Would it be ok to put them all in the pen at night. Or is someone gonna get bullied and kicked out of the bed. As I'm new to the Leopards it doesn't seem there is much of a difference from the Sulcattas, But if you have any useful info you would share with me I would greatly appreciate it.

First I would keep the new leopard seperate for a while to make sure you do not introduce any illnesses. (Quarentine) I do mix some species as long as their habitat and food requirements are similar but these two species I would be hesitant to put together. The sulcata will get bigger for one and even at the same size is probably more powerful and may hurt the leopard. The leopard is probably the stated age as they grow much slower then the sulcata. I think the best solution would be for you to ship the new leopard to my place and I will keep him in quarantine for you for a few years just to be on the safe side.
