How long to wait on a late egg?

Snakemother Jun 20, 2006 05:48 PM

I now have 10 (TEN!) hatchling beardies; the last one hatched Friday. They're starting to figure out what crickets are for, and seem to be doing nicely. Thanks for all the advice and help this last week!
I have one lone unhatched egg in the incubator. It's a bit dimpled like the ones that hatched. It dimpled when the last couple did, but they hatched and this one hasn't. How long should I still have hope for this one?

I hang on to all overdue eggs until you are positive that they are not going to hatch. Usually when mold forms and the egg becomes very yellow. Some hatchlings just do things a bit slower, so be patient, and maybe you will have another little beardie. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you.

Pretty much wait till the egg starts to stink. If it starts to smell bad, then the egg is bad. Sometimes bearded dragon babies don't make it out of the egg, either they are not healthy enough to do it, have some genetic defect that weakened them or whatever (most times it's nothing you did or didn't do, it just happens naturally. Nature weeds out the ones too weak to survive in her own way).
