Tank size question- Please respond

MissMiniZoo Jun 20, 2006 06:58 PM

I have a 29 gallon tank and a 10 gallon tank. I just completed the 10 gallon with a waterfall, creek and pond. At the moment I have 2 Fowler's Toads in the 10 gallon and 5 fire belly toads in the 29 gallon.

I'm seriously considering swapping tanks. I've had the fire belly toads for about 4 years and they don't seem to require as much space. They tend to stick to one tiny are of the tank (usually the water), whereas the Fowler's are always moving around. Would this swap be okay in your opinion?

A picture of the ten gallon is below.

I just rearranged the 29 gallon and I HATE it. I tried to make it more aquatic and it looks very plain and boring. If I put the Fowler's Toads into the 29 gallon, I plan on creating a large land area and a small pond using a false bottom. I'd really like to heavily plant the 29 gallon.

And, when we move (hopefully soon) the fire belly toads will be taking over my turtles' 55 gallon tank since the turtles will be transferred into a much larger tank.

nice tank, but not the propper habitat for fowlers, they need to burrow to be healthy and feel sucure and it's kinda hard to do that in gravel. gravel hurts their toes, so put some moss over it and then the fire bellies would be fine in it. your plan sounds good to me, just put some moss over the gravel. you should consider getting darts, i think you would be good at making tanks for them pretty tanks. the fowlers tank should look very similar to the tank below:

Thanks for your reply. The ten gallon does have dirt in it also. It has a forest mixture of leaf litter, cocofiber, orchid bark, and a sterile reptile soil mix. The gravel portion is for the "creek" I really had planned on getting darts, but then decided to wait and found the Fowler's toads at a local creek. They still have room to burrow, but not enough as far as I'm concerned. Is 10 gallons large enough for 5 firebellies? There isn't a deep water area for the firebellies in the 10 gallon either. There is only about a 1.5 inch deep pond. There is a waterfall and creek though.

i think most people will say that 5 is too much, i have 3 in a 10 gallon, but i think it would be fine, mine don't really utilize all the space and they like company, so i think it would be fine. as far as the water depth, 1.5 inchs is plenty, most people don't realize how terrestrial they are. i have mine in a 10 gallon with a water dish and they spend less than half their time in it. good luck and contact if you have any more questions!
