I posted a few days ago regarding best time to go herp hunting (jusmebabe).
I didn't find anything Sat. as it was hotter than I expected.
I went at 4pm today and flipped my last board and found a 3 1/2-4ft desert kingsnake. It was about 89f last week and about 80f this afternoon.
I'll post pics when I get a new camera but wanted to thank you guys for your info. I took a pic via my cell phone but I can only email it.
Thanx Guys,
Joel

Congrats.

I'm about to let a WC Calif King (chocolate banded) go.
I found him a little over a week ago, I only kept him because I thought he was a she - but the sex probe says otherwise (I have an adult male).

Fortunately I found him a short walk from home (around half a song on my iPod) - so I don't have to go out of my way to put him back exactly where I got him

What I do have to wait for is the heat to cool down, it's 6:51 PM but still 99F outside - I don't want to put him back until it's a little cooler. He's about 38" - poor quality pic:

I guess if I want to breed my existing WC male next year, I'll have to buy a CB cali king. I'm thinking a f. banded albino - I know the hatchlings will only be HET but by buying an albino, should fish and game ever inquire, it's obvious that an albino is probably CB and doesn't count towards the bag limit.

I don't know if I will breed though, looks like I have to get a permit to breed native species which is a bit silly IMHO (you can keep them but can't let them tango?)

It will be close to a new moon, which is good. Still not a prime as the monsoon rains.

Not sure if this is a Coastal Mtn Kingsnake but I liked it. I worked for the SPCA and was off work. My friend who also worked there called me and said a guy called about a snake in his yard. Loving reptiles I got the guys address and packed the kids up and headed over. Looked around about 15 min and didn't see anything. Checked one more time before leaving and saw this guys head sticking out of a hole.
I asked myself wat would Macgyver do (lol)? I grabbed the water hose and ran it down the hole. He popped out at the other end. I grabbed it and went on my way.
The pic is it feeding 2 days after capture. It was in a housing area with no area for animals to live. Didn't appear to be a pet due to it looking like a wild one.
Just wanted to share. This was June of last year..

There are no desert kings that far west. The kingsnakes there are Cal Kings. Roads around there, particularly through agricultural areas can produce kingsnakes at night. I have also found kings by walking along irrigation ditches at night in similar areas.

I don't think there are any mtn kings anywhere near Havasu.
