need help building cage...

queenbee Jun 20, 2006 10:09 PM

for one cornsnake what would be good size cage (measurments)?i want to build a tall cage for my 4 cornsnakes and 1 kingsnake(of course each would have it's own cage).i was thinking a book case type design.i would sand the wood stain and primer it.and of course use a caulk on all the cracks so no poopies get in.now i don't understand how to heat all this.like at petshops they have a heat light in each cage and i think thats what i would do.?i just think the cage's would get to hot, plus how do you stop the snake from touching the light and burning themselves?
i have already built one snake cage but i used chicken wire on the top of the cage so i could just set the heating lamp on it.
thanks for reading,nina

Use heat tape or heat rope with a thermostat. Just un is along the back side of the cages and you will be fine.

have you considered a rack? seeing that you have 5 snakes now (and more to come i assume?) a rack is a space and energy efficent way to house snakes.just a thought.

BTW back heat won't provide much heat for your herps UNLESS you start with a very warm room temp.have fun!
