bone sand

ejaid Aug 01, 2003 01:19 PM

i bought some bone sand for my monitor's substrate and it seems ok. on the bag it says it is digestible, is this true. what are your thoughts on this? my last message UPSET BLACKTHROAT , you gave me some good info about taming him in the bathtub except did you let her float and swim or should i only put a few inches in there.

Not if it is constantly digested. There is a certain ratio of calcium to other nutrients that is considered healthy for a monitor. Just like you and I have our recommended daily allowanced on our cereal boxes. Too much of anything can be bad. I havn't heard too much on that stuff, but common sense can prevail in most cases. I would just use plain dirt. I do know that bone sand is expensive.
On the water level, the water should be at about the shoulder, or where the monitor can comfortably keep it's head out of the water. If it has to swim to stay afloat, it can die from exhaustion...agian use common sense!!
Good luck,
Tim
