Granite ball baby simple recessive?...

STUART Jun 21, 2006 03:03 PM

Hi this girl shed today. She is the product of a striped granite female back to her offspring (Im pretty sure) there was an accidental male in with her I thought was a female. Any how this girl looks like a granite to me. So is Granite a simple recessive gene? Just wondering if anyone has done granite to het or granite to granite. Im pretty sure this is a simple recessive thing, unless the father of this clutch was my het red burgandy in which case it would be co-dominate.

Any farther from granite and they would have to be reduced pattern. Maybe you posted the wrong pics. Never the less, nice looking balls. And yes, Granite is simple recessive, but the proven animals are very few in numbers. There are alot that many call granite, and may be, but are not proven... and likely wont. I saw a table at the B'ham show that had about 200 imports and I would say over 50% of them looked like what MOST people call granites, infact he wanted more for the "Granite" ones, but thew one in on the 5 lot I bought. Its nice, and has more spots on the side than any ball I have, but I dont know if I would call it a Genetic Granite. Check the morph hunters guide for the Granite page.

Its just funny Ive had this female for a while. If the little one isnt something special thats ok I really thought she had too be though being so different from the rest of the clutch. Heres mom.

She def has some flecking but I’ve seen a million that look just like that and are not genetic like a previous poster said. Those babies are nice though! I’d say yours is more granite in appearance but not in genetics.

now that female with the eggs looks good. I would say breed one of her babies back to her. If they come out like mom, you may have a genetic granite... but I am betting not.... but you never know. Keep us posted in the future.

Why are you calling those Granites?

spyderman82 Jun 21, 2006 07:53 PM

You have normals, not even close to granites. -J.
