Solomon Island Boa

justkilintyme Jun 21, 2006 03:55 PM

Finally, the little guy ate. The local pet shop sent a solomon island boa home with me cause it hadn't eaten for her since she got it, almost 2 months. I had it at home for around 3-4 weeks, offered it a frog after a week and a half, nothing, offered a mouse every 5 days over night, nothing. Finally, last night, I put a frog in with him at night, woke up this morning, no frog. Also found he likes to soak, when i got him home the first day, put in a decent sized ceramic bowl, and he bolted right to it, and soaked almost 90% of the time i had him. he shed, defecated, and showed no signs of mites or ticks. I dont have a reptile vet near, does anyone know how i can get a stool sample checked for internal parasites, or what kind of preventative treatment i can give him "just in case"? Thanks for reading.

No problem at all!
Did you check out that website?
Also, Caden below (Hey, Caden!) recommends panacur, too, and the flagyl he mentions is the same thing as the metronidazole that I was talking about. Flagyl is just what they call it for humans. Silly drug companies!

You didn't say if he is WC? If so you can give him panacure or flagyl, but don't do it unless you see signs of parasites. Call any herp vet and ask them how to do a stool sample. Likely they will say send it to them and they will handle it. You can even get the finding of reports by phone. If not ask if there's a place they send them to you can use. If that doesn't work try another herp vet, someone will help you.
