674 north of brackett

eliotstone Jun 21, 2006 05:15 PM

I am heading north of brackettville tonight to see if anything is moving. Im wondering if many people have hit up this road in the past and had any luck with any species at all. I have driven this road maybe 10 times in the past and Ill ive come up with was a few northern black tail rattlers and a couple great plains ratsnakes. The alterna page has a couple photos of a grey band that was caught on 674, but some personal experience and perhaps some advice would be helpful.
thanks,
Eliot

Central Texas whipsnakes and patchnoses are all I've seen with one dead atrox skeleton. It really does have a few good cuts. I like Kickapoo caverns state park as a locale for not collecting. Just seems they are in there.

I think it was the road out of Rocksprings going to Uvalde where I found the 8'6.5" bullsnake credited to Lee Box in Dixon - still a state record so far as I know. Dog tame animal.
There are lepidus, bairdi in the higher elevations around there too.

Hey John. I remember that snake. It was a MONSTER. I have no idea why my dad was credited with it though.

Went out around 11:30 and walked the big hill till about 3:00. There was a nice light wind, temps about 83 down to 81. Only thing I saw was a tarantula. Maybe I'll have better luck tonight. Anyway, thanks for the responses.

Maybe try the cuts at the t junction of 377. That would be my 2nd guess for the area.

I've hit that road about 6 times. I've never found allot but I have found the usual plains rats, 1 bullsnake, 2 blacktails, a few atrox and 1 suboc. I also found a DOR indigo last summer. We may get some rain tonight. If we do, try out there the following 3 days. I may hit it on tomarrow if I'm not doing anything.
