you need to keep it moist until you get it to the vet. Tell them it is an emergency so they get you in.

Now, Cyrus just did this recently and I think it was after a poop. I got very worried, posted here, but he "pulled it back in" on his own. There was a lengthy thread on the subject right around that time. Has it been out long?

Here are links to two recent threads, the first one has some good pics. I also linked you to an article. I am sure others will respond as well.

Ok, i checked up on charles this morning but first i read all the stuff you sent me and from the look of the pictures and the descriptions, i dont believe it is a piece of intestine. This was not something sticking out of the vent, rather it looked like a growth on the corner of the vent. It was pink and puffy last night, but this morning it is much reduced in size and has taken on a healed skin pale color. I think this is probobly a good sign, and maybe charlie just took a "5 pounder" last night right before i got home and looked in his cage. I think i will try to raise the humidity in his cage a bit today and tonight and check on him tomorrow. He he continues to improve, i think i will skip the vette. And besides... this is slower lower delaware... any bets on really good chameleon doctors?

glad he seems better. It is not intestines that sticks out but his hemipene. Can you post a pic?

As for vets, go to the link in my sig. below and there are listings for vet links by state and an ARAV link.

Here are the ARAV vets for DE:
Dr. Morgan Dawkins
Windcrest Animal Hospital
3705 Lancaster Pike
Wilmington, DE 19805-1510

Christopher Montgomery
Windcrest Animal Hospital
3705 Lancaster Pike
Wilmington, DE 19805

Dr Stephanie Demarco
3001 Concord Pike
Wilmington, DE 19803

Anthony Dallatore
Windcret Animal Hospital
3705 Lancaster Ave
Wilmington, DE 19805

you might also look in MD listings if you are close to the border (actually in Delaware you are either near the border or near the water, huh?

a sperm plug?? First time I saw one on Stitch, I freaked out, took him to the vet thinking he was in serious trouble. All my vet did was lube up a q-tip and clean it out for him. It was about an inch long, pinkish..yellowish type color and about as round as a pencil kinda hard and rubbery. (yes I did touch it) She stated he was then ready for the ladies!! (don't he wish). Now I have 4 boys and find the "plugs" every so often in the cages. I've seen them drag their butts on the branches to help pull the plugs out, but they are always just fine. I'm almost expecting to see one from Pluto anyday! You should check your cage and see if you find one...
p.s. how old is Charlie now anyway?

He is about a year old now, so he should be getting towards breeding age. the white spot i saw this morning appears to be gone, so i think the charles is back to normal.

Thanks for the help. i will continue to look in the cage for anything that drops off charlie.

Thanks,
Jeff

Cow Hampshire so I feel that I can make jokes, too - and no one ever talks about DE

New Hampshire was/is called Cow Hampshire because at one time (for a longtime) there were more cows than people in the state!

lele...intestines can stick out too. If they do it looks like a big sausage sort of.

lele Jun 22, 2006 06:49 PM

I didn't know that but what I was referring to to Jeff was the links in the post I had given him (all about hemipenes)

Gee, all these fun things to look forward to with Cyrus - sperm plugs, him showing me his flower (that's what I think it looked like the one time he did it a few weeks ago - a pretty bright red flower! lol! :-O
