sexing alligator snapper?

my gator snapper,"megalon",is a little over 5" scl.i was just wondering if it is possible to visually sex it,and if so,how big does it have to be?what signs,if any,should i look for?thanks for any help ya'll can share!

your ally is far from sexual maturity. in the wild it takes at least more than 15yrs. maybe when its shell is in the 16-17" range you might tell but they still wont be mature as they'll get. female cloaca opening will be right at the edge of the shell,like a juvinile whereas a male will extend past the shell and down the tail. its gonna take several yrs of growth. check out vb3's website showing the diference. he has a few post on this page.
