corn regurgitated, won't eat

ravenspectre Jun 22, 2006 04:21 PM

Last week I was given a 4 foot corn snake said to be a 3 1/2 year old female. She shed and ate a mouse right before I got her. She hadn't eaten in 2 weeks. (Usually eats every week) She regurgitated it that night. Then I fed her a mouse 2 days later thinking that it was moving stress that caused the problem. Once again she couldn't hold it down. It has now been 5 days and now she will not eat. I gave her more heat (light and better heating pad) after the second failed feeding, to bring her up to 85 degrees. (She came with poor heating and I am not very familiar with the needs of corn snakes) She is very active, alert, and appears to be healthy. Perhaps she needs time to adjust to the new cage and smells? I am used to boids. What am I missing? Thanks.

no feeding, no handling, just peace and quiet. I would drop the temps a bit, maybe down to 82 hot side, 72 cool side. If she regurges again, you might need to see a qualified herp vet.

Thanks for the advice. She has indeed been favoring the 80 degrees zone. Of course she allways had a cool area. In any case, it turns out that the reason she wasn't eating is because she was gravid. I just got surprized by watching her lay an egg an hour ago. She pushed it around a bit and we put it heavy side down? in a dish with damp orchid moss which she promply crawled into. Its around 78 degrees. Looks like we will be seeking an incubator in the morning. I am very open to advice on taking care of corn snake eggs. Once again I am familiar with ball pythons. I was blind sided by this egg. The lady never told me she could be pregnant.
