I’ve had a tough year here. Completely my fault…..but that doesn’t make me feel much better. I had over 20 girls I put into breeding rotation this year~ I was excited! Everything seemed fine~ a few set backs (such as my het pied male refusing to breed so I had to buy another short notice)~ but for the most part there was a lot of breeding going on!
In April I discovered one of my thermostats had malfunctioned. I don’t know for how long it had been off~ or exactly how cold the girls got……..but the got cold enough for three girls to produce clutches of all slugs from three different sires so far….
And my het pied female came down with a respiratory infection.
I had one rack left with 7 girls that were bred to my pastel male that had not been turned off. But those girls were not doing anything at all~ in fact…..one of the girls shed on 4-29 in what I was hoping was her prelay shed………but 30 days came and went with no eggs from her.
I pretty much gave up on this year. My fault. Next year maybe. Kicking myself…….That’s why I’ve not been around much this year……we all want to see the success stories but no one wants a drag hanging around whining over what a mess they’ve made of it all the time.
Guess what I found this morning? I guess no-one told Anna her prelay shed should be 30 days before her clutch~ she went 54!

Maybe there is hope for this year yet……..
But I’m afraid to be too optimistic!
