How Much Is a Ball Python Worth?

bethersnakes Aug 01, 2003 02:21 PM

Hi,
I have a friend who has a ball python and doesn't want it any more. I was thinking about buying it, but neither of us knows what Prince, the ball python, is worth. He is three years old. I don't know the coloring or anything else. She is selling the equipment with Prince. Could you help me?

Worth? It's all a matter of perspective. To an owner who loves their animal there is no price. To somebody who is trying to make a buck they are never worth enough.
The best thing for you and your friend, I think, is to discuss how much your friend spent in initial costs. Then between the two of you figure out how much of that cost is to be recouped by you.

Wayne,
Thanks for your advice. I'll talk to her. I just wanted to know what other people would pay, so she won't get ripped off if I choose not to get Prince, and I won't be offering too much if I do want him.

The going price for an non-breeder Male adult ball python these days is anything from $80-150. Females on the other hand command a much higher price.

Take care.

If this was a business proposition, I would say look at the current costs locally, then depreciate the costs for the hardware (a healthy snake of 3 yrs doen't depreciate) for the time they had Prince.... That's the cost....

The other way, between friends or family, would be the same, except there would be no charge for Prince.... I feel a pet such as this isn't a 'cost' issue. It is more or less, an adoption....

Just my $.02
