Bloody Marvelous ..... Boas that is ....

johnberry Jun 22, 2006 08:26 PM

Our original Blood boa mum just dropped a nice litter for us ... 15 perfect little original line, 100% pure Blood boas (Blood to Blood pairing) .... we were hoping for a Central American Pewter as well but it doesn't look like we hit those odds, but no one around here is complaining

Lots of nice striping will make for some outstanding future morphs ... very sure its genetic as about half the babies are striped to some degree as is the mum.

Will get some better pics once everyone has shed in a few days time ....

* Yes, they are light as babies ... Bloods get a deeper red as they mature ... and as everyone is asking, the Berry Bloods look to be a brighter orange than the original line - I'llpost photos of them together to compare when they are all cleaned up*

cheers, John

three pictures?

Congrats, the original line is my favorite Blood bloodline.

How big was the mother?

johnberry Jun 22, 2006 09:47 PM

Hey Chris, I'll post more photos when they shed .... on their own and with my line to compare.

The mum is only around 5 ft, maybe less (I will measure her some time) ... thats a 32 qtr tub she is in with the babies ... so she is small ...of course the dad looks like a large corn snake .. he is only around 3ft !! Must admit small boas are VERY easy to care for ... cheers, John

I'm haveing a tough time judgeing my 66% het Bloods. Both are around what I would consider full grown, but they are just so much smaller to what I am used to. They are both born June 9th 2004 (I think that is the right date), from Tom Burke. I don't know if I should pair them up this year, or wait another year. They would be 2.5 years old this season, and they are about the size of yours, maybe larger.
The female is kept in a 421D boaphile, and I think is in the upper 5ft. range, pushing 6. The male is about 3.5ft. and very small.

How big around was your female, pre-breeding?

Thanks,
Chris

giantkeeper Jun 22, 2006 10:13 PM

if it makes it any easier for you, we have siblings to yours that we will attempt to breed this year. Our female is only slightly slimmer than an 03' het leopard female that we have at around 4'.

is your female 4ft.? I just want to make sure I understood that correctly.

Thanks for the help on that. I guess I'll have to email Amanda and see what they have planned for their '04 Blood litter holdbacks.

I'll also check with Rich Ihle, since he had his first Bloody Salmons that year. Tom bought the hets that produced our babies from Rich if I remember correctly, so they will be related.

giantkeeper Jun 23, 2006 09:25 AM

she is 4 foot, and our male is about 3 1/2 feet. He seems to have really slowed his growing a lot in the past year. Our girl is still growing and we will see how she is sitting in 6 months.

I will say the poss het bloods we have are slightly bigger than our het Leopards, and our Leopard male. Either way, it sure is nice to have small boas....lol

Take care,

Chris

I have a '04 66% het Leopard female. She has a larger build than my male poss het blood, but she is shorter. My Leopard male is an '05, so he is still tiny.

The small boas are great. And the Leopards and Bloods are, in my opinion, the two best boa morphs. I guess you have the same thought with your website name.

giantkeeper Jun 23, 2006 10:46 AM

we also have some Nic Het T that we are working with. These are 100% Nicaraguan from the Burkes, and they are nice and small too. Super sweet boas. Don't forget those killer Hypo Sonorans going around, they stay really small too! ;O)~

Those babies are fantastic! I especially like that one you posted with the striped tail! How many in the litter had striping? Looks like it's been a great year for you with the Blood Boas!! We definitely need more of those around!

Thanks,
Celia

Green with envy! I am really jealous ... maybe next year.

I had no idea how light the neonates are ... but those black eyes are a dead give-a-way.

Fantastic, John!

will post pics when they shed ... including ones of the "pale, pale, striped, hypo-ish" baby ....it doesn't look like it came from a blood .... mmmhhh .... maybe just a super clean, washed out blood ?

my female poss het is very "hypo" as well. She was very light as a baby and never gained much black pigment at all. As a sub-adult she has brick red sides, and red medalions without a speck of black. Her saddles have some black outlines, but even they are colorful, and there isn't much black around her tail blotches as is normally seen (especially for a C.A.). Then her moustache is thin a light gray, like in the best hypos. Maybe a hidden aspect of the Bloods, the stripes seem to be an added trait as well. It seems that there are a number of striped Bloods in every Blood litter.

ChrisGilbert Jun 23, 2006 10:39 AM

these are some pics I had of her on my computer.

Here she is a year earlier:

Back in '04, that is her brother in the bin next to her. You can see the difference between the two of them from an early age. I don't have any pictures prior to that (didn't have a digital camera).

senorsnake Jun 23, 2006 12:16 PM

I've always wanted one... how much do bloods go for anyhow? I've never seen anything but hets up for sale.
