My neighbor gave me this snake and I researched it but could not get a positive ID on this guy. He is very docile and active. A true character.

Just look at that sweet face...

Looks like the east TX version of a corn snake.
(Pantherophis guttatus slowinski)
formerly Elaphe g.guttatta
I could be wrong though
especially with the Latin!

Mark is right. That is a Texas Cornsnake (P. g. slowinkski).

thanks for the posts... Had a pretty good debate going around my area about what kind of snake this was... It was between a corn snake, rat snake, or king snake... It is marked just like a corn snake but I couldn't find any pictures of corn snakes with it's brown and tan coloring with no hints of yellow or orange at all...

Here are some cornsnakes from near College Station. East Texas cornsnakes are brown on brown.
