I have a Desert Iguana in Yuma, AZ

glennskie Jun 23, 2006 05:00 AM

I was wondering if I could house another lizard such as a house gecko or not, I was wanting to catch another Desert iguana to place in the cage with him also as its a big enough cage, any suggestions, he also loves to eat green leaf lettuce and romaine and he loves eating out of my hand everyday and he loves sitting on my desk at home while i'm on the computer.

Hey how are you? Depending on ho large your tank is, some lizards from the same areas can be housed together. You are from Yuma? I am stationed here right now! Are you military? I don't really know many people here yet so write back! Thanks

Careful when housing two different species with different diets. Also keep in mind temperatures, humidity, height, size, light, etc.

A desert tortoise would make a better candidate, but they need A LOT of room to forage. Desert iguanas need also A LOT of room to roam in their cages, despite their small size, they nearly require the same size as a green iguana, minus the height.

Careful when acquiring iguanas from the wild, because they can bring in parasites and/or deseases, and a quarantine period (and vet visit) is required.

Desert iguanas are awsome, above there's the CHuck-walla forum, and many folks there have desert iguanas, and some I think even house them together.
