Correct Humidity Levels

the_jackel Jun 23, 2006 08:29 AM

Hi Everyone...I just got my first Beardie (didn't know they were coming this soon just showed up) so I have been scrambling to get the cage set up correctly...and the one item I can't seem to find is what the correct humidity level should be. All the posts and care sheets just say low (or have vents to get rid of excess humidity)...but what is the correct numeric value?

Please help I want to make sure to get these gals off to a good start.

Thanks

Humidity should be less than 50%. Higher humidity for long periods can lead to respiratory infections.

Thank you...but that is a big range. Currently I am at about 35% before any misting...is this too low/ too high in relation to everyone else?

Thanks

35% is perfectly fine. Remember that bearded dragons do originally come from semi-arid conditions where the humidity is normally pretty low. About the only time you need to be worried about humidity is if it gets higher than 50% for prolonged periods (ie a couple days or more) and when the dragon is in shed. While in shed, dragons do benefit from a few extra mistings to help loosen the skin or a soak in luke warm water for 10-20 minutes daily.

As long as the dragon stays well hydrated, low humidity levels are perfectly fine. Misting their greens also helps them get moisture when they eat.
