Cactus Pads ("opuntia sp&quot

ineedabath Aug 01, 2003 03:17 PM

I was looking over the care sheet for uro's diet at deerfernfarms.com when i came across them saying that they feed their uro's, when available, cactus pads, periodically... here's the actual quote:

"When available, we also periodically place cactus pads in each cage (Opuntia sp, commercially produced as human grade food, de-spined at the store). These last for days, allowing for periodic nibbling at will."

I have never heard of "opuntia sp" and I was wondering where exactly i could purchase these cactus pads, because they seem like a good idea for uro's..

Thanks for anything

They're often found at Latin food markets. There are both spined and spineless varieties.

LP is right, I get mine from a Mexican food market. I get the spinless and chop them up small. Mine don't seem to be real enthused, so I just get them periodically.
