Closing eyes...

sasquatch1 Jun 23, 2006 08:45 PM

Whenever I get close to the baby beardie she shuts her eyes. Sometimes she'll just have one eye shut (the one closest to me) and one eye open. The other day I accidentally squirted her in the eye and ever since then she's been doing this. I use a sand substrate but she was up on brick when it happened and she isn't favoring an eye nor does it look swollen. Is this normal (the eye closing thing). Today it was a little tough feeding her crickets as she wouldn't open her eye to track them with me close to the cage.

Your beardie mght just be paranoid that you're gonna get her in the eye agian. Normally get better if nothing happens for a while on that side. So long as the are opening it, shouldn't be anything to worry about. Mine normally close one eye(closes to me) when they are up on my shoulder. My hair sometimes gets in there eye.

Thats extremely odd i thought i was the only one. ALong time ago i had a baby yellowhead. Healthy as they get for about two weeks. Then it stopped feeding altogether wouldnt move and had a habit of shutting one eye. Mine could have been a completely different case then urs but after the eye thing, and the disconitnueation of eating it died. R.I.P.

she doesn't appear to have a problem with her eye as she will open either one and is pretty frisky but if you even walk in the room where she is she'll close one of them. Her eating is sporadic. Today she did 10 crickets in the morning and 1 this evening...she isn't skinny and is drinking and she constantly has greens in there with her....maybe she's stuffed?
