High Contrast and Red Coastals

cfoley Jun 23, 2006 09:08 PM

Just thought I would share some pics of my carpets. There are 2.1 high contrast coastals, and 0.1 red. This season my males should be ready, as well as the red female. The HC female will be a while. Disregard the little IJC in there...

This is a picture of my carpet. I was told that it was definitely, without a doubt, an IJ. Since you have coastal and IJs, I would appreciate your opinion. I got him as a hatchling and he never looked red. He is growing faster than my JCP of the same age. He seems to be getting lighter with every shed. He has always been very dossal.

I can get better pictures tomorrow.

I have a strong suspicion that what you have is an IJ X Coastal or an IJ X Jungle. But it definitely does not have the pattern of a pure IJ and you said yourself that it was not a red baby. That alone rules out pure IJ. We produced three clutches of Coastal X IJs this season and some were "reddish" and other were not red really at all. None had anywhere near the typical red color of a baby pure IJ. Attached is a pic of one of the crossed babies (actually a IJ X Coastal Jaguar sibling). You can see a general red color to it but it is most certainly dark when compared to this pure IJ baby...

Mine never was red like that first pic. It was more like your second pic but with darker brown bands. They are only getting light brown with a black border now. He was a darker version of the picture I posted.
His attitude well makes up for the questionable lineage. Sooo mellow, but not a slug.
Thanks for your help! I need to save my pennies and get one of your sweet IJs.
