Will golfish get poisoned from turtle water? What do I need to do in order to prevent this?

No, turtle water will not poison the fish.

be careful putting fish in the tank though, because generally Turtle Fish = Fed Turtle.

they LOVE goldfish, but they are very high in fat, so don't use them as an everyday food source.

if you are dead set on wanting a goldfish in your tank (like me) look for the biggest goldfish your tank can support. depending on the size of your turtle, they most likely won't try to eat it.

(i have a 2 1/2 inch RES and a 2 inch goldfish, and they get along great)

just make sure the water if filtered =]

I have a baby RES who is 1.5inch with 2 2inched goldfish and they seem to get along fine. There is filteration ofcourse, but just a simple underwater filter. The parents are about 6-7 inches, and every fish I put in they tear apart. My last attempt was with a fish thats looks like a shark (I can't find his name) not those silver shark fish, but something else. They killed him in seconds!!! I don't think the big RES would get along with even the biggest golfish/koi. I thought about trying NEONS coz they're so small and fast....

Tiger barbs are good, cause they can swim really fast. I like the way they look as well.

well the reason why they get along fine is cause your goldfish is larger then your turtle! lol. just wait till your little baby grows and that fishie will be history... =]

Believe me I KNOW. I also have the parents who won't let a fish be kept alive in their tank for more than a minute!

I would not even bother with gold fish in your turtle tank. They are messy and I hear they can carry parasites. Turtles should mostly eat rosy reds or minnos as far as fish go. I have had great luck so far with tropical fish as far as pritty fish go with my turtles.

I have always had feeder gold fish with my turtles.

We have a 40 gallon breeder tank and 3 (4-5 inch) RES. We have a great filter and every 2 weeks we buy 10 feeders as a treat for the turtles. Yes, they are food but 3 have managed to survive to be about 6 inches long. As long as there is room in the tank and if the turltes are full, they will stop eating the fish. We dont have issues with disease or parasites but we also make sure to buy from ONLY ONE store and it is a very reputable one at that.
Our animals seem very happy.
