Anyone mist their corns weekly

Ritas Jun 24, 2006 05:15 PM

Hi
Does anyone mist their corns weekly or pre shedding? I ask because someone in pet store said its good for them . Helps with shedding . He never had shedding problems but seems like a good idea .
I tried it today (aged water same temp as his enclosure) he wasnt thrilled but figure once a week might be ok.

Thanks

Rita

I have done the same thing with my corn snake whenever it seemed she was having a hard time shedding and the next day she was nice, shiny and a happy baby... Not sure if it really helps, but it sounds like a good idea lol...

I mist all of mine (2 corns, 1 redtail boa, 1 ball python) weekly and then daily when they're getting ready to shed. They seem to be on similar shed schedules, so I know when one of them does it the others aren't too far behind (usually within the week).

Both of the corns end up shedding in one solid piece (complete with the eyes and nose indentions visable). I find the skin rolled or bunched in the same way you would take off a pair of stockings.

My boa tends to shed all in one piece also, but my python seems to end up with small pieces of shed skin all over the cage.

Thank you both for the replies . I am going to mist weekly than daily during shedding. Thats nice when they shed in one full piece thats nicely lubricated skin .
Mine sheds in 2 or 3 pieces but full shed no problems but think misting sounds good esp corns that come from humid South.

when a snake sheds it should come off in one peice.that is a well hydrated, healthy snake.misting them is fine, just dont over do it.it mostly helps when snake is going to shed.it keeps the moisture in the enclosure up.your bp should be shedding in one peice, does it soak in water bowl?you may want to try soaking him when you see hes going to shed.

and heating system do you use? If you use heat lamps, they can dry the air out, and a glass tank with a screen top isn't great for holding humidity either. I tend to have the opposite problem, since I keep mine in a plastic cage with a plexiglass door. I have to drill extra ventilation holes in the cages to let out some humidity. Definitely no misting needed here.

No, I keep a damp hide in with them most of the time. They go and sit in it if they need increased humidity.
