think.

Ok for a mister I was thinking of finding some sort of container for the water and using a submersible (sorry for spelling) water pump like you find in those small out side fountain/ponds. Like the small ones they sell at Lowes. The pump pumps like 150 gallons an hour even though I wont need that much it just shows that it has the power to do so. Thats just the small pump. So hook that up to some tubing and put that in the cage with about 3 sprinkler attachments along the length of the tube. So what does everyone think?

For one snake I would just get a garden sprayer from Home Depot or where ever and just spray the cage once a day. Thats what I do on all my cages.

Misting systems are nice but to me even home made jobs only justify themselves when you need it for a lot of cages, and then because you need so many the high quality pump is pretty much the best route.

Good Luck and did you check out Ecologic?

I bought a sprayer from Lowes today and I am using that but I plan to get more rainbows later so I would end up using it for multiple snakes and I also love making stuff like that. I did check out the site and thanks, there are some cool things on there.

I don't mist my cages....EVER..... I supply large surface area water bowls, a moist hide box and limit the ventilation. My BRB's are not only doing great but producing lots of babies for me again with NO misting.

IMO, misting is NOT a substitute for humidity. It can help create humidity in an enclosure that, on it's own, can't sustain humidity.

Humidity is simply airborne water. Water molecules will evaporate from whatever sources of water their are. If retained in the cages, the cage will be humid. The two common reasons for lack of humidity in a cage are:

Not enough evaporation.
Allowing humidity to escape enclosure.

I sold a BRB to a petstore, have worked with them in the past but this was a new reptile person. I explained how to set up the cage but they ignored me, put him in a 10 gallon with a screen top. They misted twice a day....duh....the lil guy dehydrated and stopped eating. I brought him home, put him into my rack (no holes, only tiny shelf gap) and he re-hydrated and started eating again.

My BRB cages....only a small 2" diameter vent per section. Old pics, now each section has the sweater hide and large fishbowl water bowl on top like the upper right section. The PVC piping is for breeding, allows ,me to connect multiple cage sections into one larger cage. They seem to have NO problem finding each other....pheremones? (sp?)

-The nozzles for the misting systems are rated at ounces per minute as aposed to sprinkler heads rated at gallons per hour. Thats a lot of water.

-The high end pumps are quiet pumps that can be run on a timer many times a day with many starts and stops, and can be run dry. The standard submersiable pump while it can be run on a timer is not designed for start and stop operation nor will it work after running dry.

Just a few thoughts.
